Early Spring Bass Fishing Excitement

Springtime bass fishing is probably one of the best times to catch big female bass. Early spring bass fishing means that bass are bedding and they will lay eggs soon. The bass make a small bed in shallow water, about three to five feet. They will clean the area inside of the bed and make it so that the inside is sand only. They will defend that bed from anything that comes close to it.

When a person is early spring bass fishing, they are fishing with sight. This means that the people are wearing polarized glasses that reduce glare in the water and they are looking at the bottom for signs of a bass. The bass might run but they always come back to the bed. There are always two bass protecting the bed. One might be out foraging for food while the other one guards the nest.

The female is bigger in size and weight to the male. If the male is somewhat large, the female can be very big. The way to early spring bass fish is to slowly move the boat close enough to cast onto the bed. The bass probably won’t eat the lure. They are just interested in keeping all trespassers from their bed.

A person must be able to see the bass because when the bass picks up the bait to move it, the person must set the hook. If the fish won’t bite, leave it and come back to it later in the day. Don’t spend all day on one bed unless it is a wall hanger. Some people have been known to sit on a bed trying to provoke a reaction for hours. This may or may not pay off.

Early Spring Bass Fishing No-No’s

For those people who do a lot of early spring bass fishing, they know the ins and outs. For others, there are some basic rules to follow in order to keep the fishing good for years to come. The first thing to know about early spring bass fishing is to not keep the bass. If people keep the bass during the spawn, no new bass will be born. Also, big bass are not the norm. They are the exception and the big females have certain genes that will be passed on to her offspring.

If people want to keep catching big bass, they need to release them during the bed and spawn. Also, if a person does catch a big bass that might be close to a record, keep them in the live well and once fish and game are through with the fish turn her loose where she was caught. The goal is to not take bass away from their beds. The female will go back to the bed if she is released near where she was caught.
