Types of Bass Fishing Lures

There is probably more lures for bass than any other type of freshwater fish. Bass fishing lures come in every shape and size and almost any color a person can think of. There are different types of bass fishing lures available to the public and some are more effective than others. One type of bass fishing lure is called a crank bait.

Crank baits are so called because they are tied onto the line and cranked back in to the boat. Crank baits can also be honed down into different sub categories. Some are meant to go down to fifteen feet or so below thee water. A person would use this in deeper water. For water depth of around ten ft there is another crank bait with a medium lip that will touch bottom at around the ten foot level.

The last category of crank bait has a small lip and will touch the bottom at about three to five feet. Along with each of these crank baits are three more sub categories. One will float on the top when the person stops cranking on the reel. The next type will sink when the person isn’t reeling.

The third type will suspend in the water and stay at the depth it was at. Bass fishing lures can get complicated when a person doesn’t understand all of the different dynamics of fishing. Another type of bass fishing lure is called a top water bait. These float even when the person is cranking them in. Most make a lot of noise on the surface which can be deadly at dawn and dusk or really choppy water with cloud cover.

Another type of bass fishing lure is the spinner bait. It is tied directly to the line or to a small swivel. These lures try to trick bass into making an impulsive strike of the lure. They are shiny and the blades of the lure are usually either gold or silver but sometimes painted. The blades themselves can come in a multitude of shapes designed to mimic the different fish in the local waters.

The lures also use a rubber skirt that flows along with the bass fishing lure. The skirts are removable so they can be switched out with others of the same or different colors. Bass Fishing Lures are not as confusing as they seem. The greatest help to a novice bass fisherman is to just get out on the water and learn what works the best. The more time that is spent on the water, the more proficient one will become.
